John Chase is a young farmer who dreams of becoming an
artist and painter, but his father insists that he continue the
family tradition of farming. As he struggles to reconcile his
desires with his father’s expectations, a series of unsolved
murders in New York City pushes John to the brink of
insanity. He creates a set of thirteen disturbing paintings
before his sadistic behavior is discovered, sending the art
world into a frenzy over the anticipated value of his limited
work.
However, it soon becomes clear that John is not just an artist
with a dark side, but a full-blown serial killer who expresses
his initial rage through his paintings. He is the result of years
of abuse and manipulation by the Man in Black, who has
been present throughout John’s life, orchestrating events
to create an angry, violent, and heartless killer exactly as
desired.
SYNOPSIS
The Man in Black has been there through every trauma John
and John Sr. faced, from the molestations by a Priest to the
unmerciful beatings from John Sr. for expressing himself
through art. The Man in Black’s ultimate goal was to create
a product of their environment, a ruthless killer that they can
control and use for their own twisted purposes.
Throughout the film, the Man in Black and his minions, the
Watchers, weave their diabolical plans like a spider’s web,
consuming everything in their way to achieve their ultimate
goal: spreading chaos and darkness. John Chase is merely a
means to an end, a heartless and violent serial killer that they
can control and use to further their twisted desires. The film’s
exploration of abuse, trauma, and the destructive power
of family traditions takes on an even darker edge as John’s
descent into madness is revealed to be just a small part of
the Man in Black’s larger plan for mayhem and destruction.
